More than a fun movie about con artists playing the rich, the government and the mob, “American Hustle” captures the look and feel of the 1970s. More important for the sake of this soundtrack, it captures the sound of the decade. It doesn’t sound like a greatest hits record, either. It has a style and feel that represents top hits by Donna Summer, the Bee Gees and E.L.O, but also the more underground songs by Steely Dan and Mayssa Karaa. Other numbers reflect earlier music that people in the ’70s would remember and still love: Duke Ellington and Frank Sinatra. It is a “lights out” collection of music that delights fans with a two-disc set on red translucent and blue translucent vinyl.
